The Dubai Desert Classic Golf Tournament

The Majlis course is host to the Dubai Desert Classic DP World Tour event, one of our favourite golf experiences. The most famous of the Dubai golf Championship courses. The signature clubhouse at the Emirates Golf Club is modelled on a Bedouin tent. The Majlis combines natural rolling desert terrain with lush fairways and several fresh and saltwater lakes. Large, fast greens provide you with a delightful yet challenging round of golf. The Desert Classic is hosted in February (or early March). Therefore the Majlis will be closed from around early February until after the tournament.

Emirates Majlis Golf Course Review

The Majlis was the first grass course in the Middle East and one of the most famous. The Course takes its name from the Arabic word for ‘meeting place’. One of the most prominent features of the Course is the Majlis building itself, positioned between the 8th and 9th holes and a Dubai landmark since 1988.

The Course is a Par 72 and can be stretched out to 7,301 yards from the tips. Providing a good test of golf from the world’s best golfers.

Notably, Ernie Els set the course record of 61 here on January 27 1994 — a testament to the course’s world-class challenge.

Signature Hole at the Majlis Course Emirates Golf Club

Our Favourite Hole on the Course is the 7th. A Par 3 is well guarded at the back by two deep bunkers and water in front of the putting surface. Again, selecting the right club is essential, and take note of the wind conditions as they play havoc on this lovely Par 3.

Club selection on the 7th is critical: when the prevailing breeze turns off the Gulf, play half a club longer. A miss short leaves a delicate pitch over water to a narrow green sloping front-to-back.

Iconic 8th Hole at the Majlis Course

The 8th is one of the most photographed holes in the Middle East — a 240-yard par 4 dogleg right demanding a precise tee shot over desert terrain. From the championship tees, take one club more for the uphill approach to the elevated green beneath the Royal Pavilion, framed by the Dubai skyline.

From the elevated tees you can play straight toward the dramatic Dubai skyline, with the Burj Khalifa rising behind the green — a view that defines golf in the UAE.
