Del Monte is the oldest continuously running course west of the Mississippi. The Pebble Beach Company, which includes Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and Spanish Bay, among its other properties, owns and manages the facilities of the golf course.
Designed by golf and polo enthusiast Charles Maud, this inland course boasts a meandering layout that has challenged golfers for more than a century. Sitting on the Monterey peninsula alongside so many other quality golf courses, Del Monte in comparison is more than a little undiscovered.
it’s not a long course despite holding par of 72. At 6,357-yards one the scorecard, this course looks tamed, but don’t let that trick you into thinking it’s a simple round of golf. On the second hole, a 328-yard par four, the obstacles that the golfer’s faces are exemplified. A slight draw of no more than 225 yards must be the shot. Any tee shot slightly shorter would leave the golfer blocked from the green and a bunker will be found for any shot too long. A thin, highly-sloped green approach is played where long is dead and short possibly means that the third shot would be from a bunker with very little green to work with. The extreme back-to-front slope makes it difficult to score well as with most greens on the course.
If you are looking for traditional golf played from a golf course designed in the golden ages of course design, Then this is one for you.
