Poppy Hills Golf Course
Poppy Hills first opened in 1986; a Robert Trent Jones Jr designed golf course is just one of the seven fantastic golf courses situated in Pebble Beach in California, arguably, golf’s most famous postcode. This 18- hole par 71 Championship golf course is as close to playing golf in a National park as you can get, located in the heart of the Del Monte forest it measures just over 7,000 yards from the back tees. Playing Poppy Hills is an experience in itself winding its way through the Forest testing out accuracy from the Tee on every hole.
At Poppy Hills Golf Course, the closing hole offers a thrilling finish and a perfect chance for risk/reward birdie. This par five will be accessible for several players with a well-placed drive at just 519 yards from the championship tees. The approach shot plays to a green fronted by a hazard that is partly waste area and partially a creek and marked with yellow stakes. The safe play requires a shot from the right side, where the ball is fed to the green by a hill that slopes towards the green and a probable eagle putt are set up. Attacking a pin in the back left of the green is the riskiest move on this hole as there is less green to deal with and a longer carry over the threat.
Poppy Hills used to have a bit of a reputation for being a bit under par; Since the refurbishments, we can honestly say Poppy Hills is one of California’s finest golf courses.
