Gary Player Country Club Golf Course
The Gary Player Country Club Course has been hosting the world-renowned Nedbank Challenge, the professional tour’s first million-dollar tournament. The landscaped fairways and greens contrast markedly with the Acacia trees and wandering wild animals in the African Bushveld and accompanied by the Pilanesberg National Park, just a chip shot over the railing! Its one of our most highly regarded requests for golf vacations in South Africa and is kept in pristine condition.
Designed by Gary Player, this course is considered one of the best in South Africa and is one of the world’s longest golf courses at almost 8,000 yards. Built-in an extinct volcanic crater, the fairways are immaculate and generally wide but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s easy. That said, with its multiple tee options, the course can be enjoyed by all. This fantastic course is a true test of golf, which is just one of the reasons it’s home to the Nedbank Golf Challenge year after year.
With a deceiving par 3 16th and then 2 very complicated par 4’s with a grandstand finish over water, the final three holes match any course in the world. The 17th has the ability to be a genuine wrecker of your scorecard, as you have to thread your ball around the narrow neck to a postage-stamp-sized green surrounded by water.
The Gary Player Country Club course is a course that is only for walkers but we would strongly suggest a caddie to carry your bag and help if your ball were to depart the lush fairways. There’s more than enough water on the course offering good opportunities for risk-and-reward, and a good test for all skill sets.
