Sawgrass Dye’s Valley Course
Another classic from the Pete Dye Portfolio, with assistance from Bobby Weed and Jerry Pate, built back in 1987 this established gem, the Valley course is more than just another course. Geared towards players of all standards, whilst in the area and at the resort definitely put this course on your must-play list.
For players looking to experience the PGA Tour’s flagship TPC Sawgrass facilities while saving on a green fee the Valley is a good option. The movement in the estate is a good change of scenery compared to the prolific established flat terrain courses in Florida.
If you haven’t played the Stadium course with and this is the first round you play at Sawgrass the 5th is a good warm-up for what faces you later in your trip The 158 Yard Par 3 5th hole–, is another version of the famous island green 17th on the stadium course. Attractive and demanding in its own right, without the absolute do-or-die aspect, this short one-shot hole features a lot of the same elements of its far more popular cousin. A rescue area is provided left of the hole but players who reach the tiny bunker next to the green will face the feared sand shot that plays in the direction of a water hazard. If the iconic 17th hole at the Stadium course did not exist, then as one of the most enjoyable on the property, this hole would get a lot more justified hype.
As the yearly host of the Web.com Tour Championship final event whereby players have this one shot to prove their merits and obtain their PGA Tour card for the following season, the Valley course has acquired some prestige.
