TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course
The TPC Sawgrass Stadium course at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa, in Jacksonville was created to host “The Players Championship” (the 5th Major) and was based on several unique concepts.
Firstly, it would be the permanent home of The Players Championship showcasing golf in Florida at its best, and the players would own it. Secondly, the course and surrounding areas would be built with spectators in mind. It would be the first real “Stadium Course,” designed and built to improve the overall on-site fan experience. Thirdly, the TPC would be a course of great design and character that would be accessible for all golf fans.
The Pete and Alice Dye design was genuinely revolutionary to be constructed with the idea of audience seating being a priority and while hosting the PGA Tour. The course immediately attracted criticism from players, something that Pete seems to love, as they faced the challenging shots needed to prevent the various risks found in the routing.
It has two individual courses, the Stadium Course and the Valley Course. The Stadium Course, known for being one of the most challenging golf courses globally, was designed by golf course architects Pete and Alice Dye.
One of the most spectacular backdrops you’ll ever see as you come up to the 18th hole is the palatial clubhouse, which stands as the most famous building on Ponte Vedra Beach.
