Built-in 1907, Pinehurst No 2 course is largely considered Donald Ross’s greatest masterpiece. It has served as the site of more single golf championships than any course in America including the U.S. Open and the Ryder Cup Matches. No. 2 is best known for its crowned, undulating greens, which are some of the most complexes and widely hailed in the world. However, in 2011, the team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw completed a restoration of the course returning the natural areas and strategic shot values that Ross originally intended.

The newly remodeled # 2 course at Pinehurst eradicates the penal rough and reinstates the natural sand for which the area is widely known for. The sandhills of central North Carolina are an emblematic characteristic and now boundary both sides of each fairway at Pinehurst # 2. gThe irrigation system was rebuilt with a single faucet line running through the middle of the fairway; whatever it reaches is cut to fairway length and whatever it does not reach is sandy waste area. The golf course’s famous dome greens have been lightened in places, but they’re going to play a myriad of difficulty when they’re dry and tightened up for major tournaments; such as the Men’s and Women’s U.S. Opens being held there.

This wonderful golf course simply oozes with heritage and gentle reminders, including Donald Ross’ famous quote on Pinehurst #2 found on the opening tee and Payne Stewart’s larger-than-life statue celebrating his 72nd putt being sunk to win the 1999 U.S Open Championship.
