The Dunes Golf & Beach Club
Located in North Myrtle Beach, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club is one of the oldest courses in Myrtle Beach, if not The oldest course in South Carolina, opening its doors in 1949. This fantastic championship golf course was designed by none other than the legendary Robert Trent Jones Snr and had a rich history of many golfing accolades over the decades. The course has recently been upgraded and improved by fittingly Robert Trent Jones. After completing the changes and improvements, Trent said, “The golf course my father, Robert Trent Jones, created for the Dunes Club in 1948 is one of his true masterpieces. It is a challenging championship course designed on ideal land for golf; sandy, rolling terrain along the ocean with magnificent trees framing the fairways. It has been one of the highlights of my career to have had the opportunity to restore and enhance the original design intent. As a result, the course is now positioned for play by today’s golfers.”
From the back tees, the Golf course stretches to 7,450 yards, which sounds long, but by today’s standards, is par-for-the-course and most of the top Championship courses are all around this figure. Over the years, the golf course has hosted numerous events, including the Women’s USGA, PGA Senior Tour Championship, PGA Professional National Championship, and PGA Tour qualifying course. Each of the holes here has its nickname or descriptive name to portray them in their very best light, the most famous of all. In some eyes, one of the most Legendary holes in World Golf is Hole # 13, measuring just short of 600 yards. This Signature Hole “Waterloo” is a tight tree-lined severe double right dog-leg with Lake Singleton coming into play. The lake runs adjacent to the fairway for over half the length of the hole before a raised undulating green guarded by no less than three large bunkers, two at the front apron and one at the back.
Undoubtedly, The Dunes Club is one of the greats the USA offers and should be on everyone’s bucket list of golf courses.
