The History of the Farmers Insurance Open

The Farmers Insurance Open is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, played annually at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California. The event was first played in 1952 as the San Diego Open Invitational and held at Torrey Pines every year since 1968 except for 1973. The tournament is usually played in late January or early February; The field is limited to the leading 60 available players on their respective tours’ money list, not including those ranked outside of the top 125 or those who need a sponsor’s exemption.
