San Lorenzo Golf Course

The San Lorenzo Golf Course is located in Portugal, on the outskirts of the exclusive Quinta do Lago estate, overlooking the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. San Lorenzo Golf Course, designed by golf course architect Joseph Lee, opened its doors in 1988 and has consistently been ranked as one of the best golf courses in the Algarve. The San Lorenzo golf course has received numerous accolades throughout its history, including being named the number one golf course in Portugal on no less than five occasions, and consistently appearing in numerous Top 100 listings.

Residents of the Dona Filipa have exclusive access to San Lorenzo. The Dona Filipa Hotel in Vale do Lobo, to be exact. The Dona Filipa Hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service to and from the golf course for all golfers.

San Lorenzo has some fantastic par four holes, the best of which are the 6th, 12th, and 17th. The sixth hole has a large dogleg left and runs alongside the Atlantic. You’ll be tempted to try to cut the corner, which is possible but requires paying close attention to the wind and the trouble that awaits down the right side. The 12th hole has a very narrow fairway and is one of the most difficult holes on the course, with a bunker on the right side in addition to those surrounding the green. The 17th hole runs alongside a lake that extends all the way to the green, so anything less than a precise drive off the tee could result in a bogey

Without doubt one of the best layouts in European golf with the back drop of the Ria Forma’s nature reserve to boot. Our favourite golf course in the Algarve each and every time we visit.
