Review of Old South Golf Club in Hilton Head

Johnston developed the Old South Golf Links in line with the gorgeous natural landscape of the Low Country. Old South Golf Links was intended not only to provide a fun yet exciting golf game but also to conserve the natural scenery,. Its natural amenities and spectacular views make this course a joy to play.
The wide range of settings, from the oak forest to the open grassland to the tidal salt marsh, presented an opportunity to differ the design and strategic thinking of the game.

The 16th hole on the golf course is among the most demanding and idyllic par 4’s in the Low Country. With the tee boxes wedged deep into the woods, the green is hidden from sight on the left side of this lengthy dogleg. The fairway is 220 yards away from the tips and is sewn in with trouble on three sides. Leave your golf ball short or left and you will be reloading as the ball will inevitably be wet, Fire long and you will be deep in the trees, and a tee shot to the right, even though generally playable, will require a long iron to find the tricky green. A great drive down the middle of the fairway leaves a player with a 170 yard second shot across the salt marsh to a wonderful two-tiered island green, From here if you look beyond the green you will be rewarded with a grand view of the inland waterway and Hilton Head Island.

We recommend staying at the Sea Pines Resort and pairing your golf with a round on the stunning Harbour Town Golf Links.
